With diverse backgrounds and a shared passion for impact, our board works tirelessly behind the scenes to guide our mission, strengthen our programs, and ensure the LGBTQ+ community on the Northshore feels seen, supported, and valued.
Hi, I’m Cara Twillie, Founder and President of Connect Northshore.
Connect Northshore was born from something deeply personal. I didn’t come out until my forties—not because I didn’t know who I was, but because I didn’t see anyone like me. Growing up and living on the Northshore, visibility simply wasn’t there. Heteronormativity filled the gaps where representation should have been, and for a long time, I didn’t realize there was another way to exist.
That experience shaped everything.
I created Connect Northshore because I don’t want anyone else to have to wait decades to feel seen, valued, and connected. Our community deserves spaces where people can show up fully as themselves—without fear, without delay, and without having to search so hard for belonging.
With over 25 years as an educator, I’ve always believed in the power of connection, growth, and creating environments where people thrive. Connect Northshore brings that same energy into the community—building relationships, creating inclusive spaces, and making sure visibility is no longer something people have to go searching for.
This work is about more than events or programs—it’s about changing what’s possible here on the Northshore.
